Common mistakes to be strictly avoided while writing an article for Medium or your blog. Includes common mistakes + important tags.
As a new writer, including me, we do so many mistakes and takes much more time to evolve. Actually, there are a lot more things to take care of, and it’s a learning process comes by experience. Some of these I found out and trying to avoid while I write.
Before coming here we weren’t writing for readers, how beautiful we were able to put words together, but if we don’t take care of few mistakes, it might not reach the actual readers for your article. Mistakes to be avoided in your next article:
- Choosing a non-attractive Heading not matching your article
- Not putting Subheadings
- Not formatting it, and not highlighting important points
- Not making it readable
- Wrong tags
- Nor writing for different publications
- Not trying different topics
- Not planning out points to be covered before starting
- Not selecting an attractive Image for your article
- Not doing proofreading
- Not connecting posts by relevant links
- Your story isn’t engaging readers from the beginning
- Not writing what you mentioned initially
- Not writing for readers
- Not writing down the ideas at the moment, and leaving it for later
- Not revising and adding necessary updates in your article later.
- Waiting for the right time when you’d be free to write patiently, or procrastinating it.
- Thinking you can’t take the job and writing together
- To not having an Idol to learn from
- Thinking you can do it only by keeping you close in a room, away from all stimulation, away from reading other articles, away from life. To inspire other, and to write for living readers, you must live too.
- Not researching the topic, and thinking you know enough
- Thinking following and supporting others is only help to other
- It is said ideally article should be of 8–10 minutes of reading time, but unnecessarily making it long and not having the quality and engagement.
- Thinking your followers can only give you views. They are an inspiration, support, teacher, an aid for improvement in you.
- Losing hope early. For some it may be a quick thing, if it doesn't happen to you it is worth taking the time.
- Not scribbling ideas or not making draft the moment you get.
- Forcing yourself to write, if you still want to write read some articles before that, you’ll be encouraged. Some say just keep writing, but I feel keep reading.
